I hope this is basic, and easy, and that I am ignorant. I was installing an old Pioneer head unit into a 99 plymouth breeze, after completing the install teh radio works great.... But the parking lights and teh dash lights don't work. At all. I even reconected the factory stereo and *nothing*. The dome light still works, the glove box light works, lights on the interior of the doors work...but no parking lights, and no dash lights. Anyone have an idea what I did? Thanks. tdfb@cox.net

Fuse is good. Checked that already. Same fuse runs dome light and other interior lights that are working. Thx

Did you check all fuses including the ones in the engine bay?

I didn't check all of them. Only the one that was listed in my diagram as controlling the dash/interior/parking lights. I'll check the rest of them tomorrow. Also, just reading through the other posts, apparently others have had "similar" problems... So the head unit is working fine right now...but no dash or parking lights. All loose ends were taped up. Reinstalled the factory head unit and the parking lights and dash lights still didn't work. If I don't find any bad fuses does this point in the direction of the BCM or BCU whatever it was? Somehow that doesn't seem like a favorable (for me) diagnosis.

One other thing did you connect the dimmer wire? It should be a orange or ORANGE / white if so disconnect it. As far as your other question possibly. Check everything else before jumping to that. Hope not though. Let us know.

The orange wire from the harness is not attached to anything. I noticed this morning that my wonderful "you left your lights on" chime doesn't work anymore either. One thought I had...could this be a result of a bad ground? I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination, I just wasn't sure about the quality of my ground. But I figured since it worked it must have been alright. I'm going to check all of the fuses and double check all of my connections tonight. I somehow doubt that the connections are fouled up since everything is working...plus I can't see a crossed wire being the gut of all of this. But then again, what do i know? THanks for your help, I'll update you when I check all of the fuses like you suggested.

OK. Let's give a more accurate picture of the situation. My 20A fuse for the Illum/Park lights was blown. No big deal. I put another one in, turned on the lights and still nothing. The fuse is blown again. So at least its not a BCM...what is more likely the cause of the fuses popping? Crossed wires or a bad ground? I think I'm going to rerun the ground regardless, I wasn't happy with it. Could the bad ground be the source of this? Oh yah, btw....the stereo still works. What a trooper. Thanx again.

Unplug your radio then replace the fuse. If the fuse doesn't blow then you know there is something wrong with the radio's wiring. If this is the case you probably grounded to an illumination or dimmer wire. Make sure that all wires are either connected or at least capped or butt connected just to make sure that nothing at the radio is shorted out. ------------- Certified Security Specialist

I reconnected all the wires and relocated the ground to a better location. Replaced the fuse, and *poof*. It works. Thanks for your help, both Sound Pressure and auex. You got me in the right place.

what you have done is hooked your ground to an illumination wire. this wire appears to test as a ground when your lights are off but as soon as you turn your lights on, the wire becomes 12volts.disconnect the ground from your deck and connect it directly to chassis. Also make sure that any other loose wires in the vehicle that are not being used are capped or sealed off.
