So I have an Audiocontrol EQ/X-over (Three.1) that's acting as a preamp for an Ipod, my main source. Signal goes straight to amps from there. The AC unit will also accept speaker level input (there's no source switch) & act as an LOC.
I'd like to route the stock CD player into the AC thru the speaker level inputs for occasional use but I don't want to corrupt the signal path with an unswitched second source - meaning when the Ipod's playing I don't want the preamp to "see" the HU & cause any wierd input impedance issues or noise problems.
I'm not super concerned about bomber SQ from the cd player but it'd be nice to have it in the system. Is it possible to use Diodes on the speaker lines between the EQ & the CD player to keep it isolated when not in use?
How can I expect the diodes to affect the SQ?
What amperage diodes would I need?
Would I need them on every lead (pos & neg) or just one per channel?
Diodes? No, that won't do what you want. The Three.1 is designed for only one input and cannot be level-matched to more than one.

Actually the level-matching is the least of my concerns. Gains are set at zero now, as in no addt'l line driving boost, and the HU has a volume control that acts as its own output control/gain.
I've tried this setup once before, works great except that the HU is noisy as hell (and that noise bleeds over to the Ipod, even with the CD player switched off), as if there's some static voltage in the speaker lines. If I could isolate them from the ipod source I'd be OK with it.
Diodes would do nothing excelt turn your speaker outputs into DC. If you really want to jury-rig a setup like this I suggest using a speaker-level switch to disconnect the HU from the Three.1. But really, it's a kludge setup. Get an Aux in to your HU for the iPod and do it right.
