I'm looking to replace my stock speakers with some inexpensive($150 or less) components. I've got my eye on some MB Quart Discus LIne speakers, but have been told in many cases the low-end speakers are often no better than than the factory ones. Is ths true, would I just be wasting money or will I be able to hear a discernable difference in the sound quality? Also if not through the MB Quarts is there another line of components in that price range that would offer a sound quality improvement? Thanks.

Stock speakers aren't very good... you will hear a big difference switching them out with something better... as for brand I would go to a shop and listen to them and let your ears tell you what to get because mine aren't the same as yours.

agreed, everyone hears things differently. as mentioned, go shop around. factory speakers vs. aftermarket.........no contest. in most cases, any aftermarket speaker will sound alot better than stock. less distortion, better power handling, better responce, just overall better. unless you've got something like a lexus with a mark levinson system, i'd say replace them.

Quarts are good.  In the lower-price categories many people like Infinity or Alpine components.  Your best bet is to go shopping and actually listen to what's available, as it is only your ears that matter for your car.

agreed, the infinity comps sound pretty good, but the reference series are like 199, or at least that's what we sell them for.

I like the infinity's over the alpines the alpines kind of sound harsh and mettalic to me which goes to show its all about what sounds good to you!

Pioneer makes some incredible components that equal MB Quart/CDT for the Infinity price. Check out these:
