Had a customer come in today saying that the AVIC-N2 that we had installed about a year ago doesn't turn on when its warm. The thing starts fine first thing in the morning but after sitting in the sun all day it doesn't. When warm, the unit LED's come on for a second then turn off. They keep doing this until after the AC has had time to cool the car down, then turns on fine. I actually ran into this issue myself with my AVIC-N1 a few years ago. At the time I just figured it was an isloated incident but this second one has got me wondering if anyone else has had this problem or knows of any thermal protection that may be kicking in. I am from Florida and find it wierd that he is having a problem with heat now, in November, when this should have been happening mid July and August. I called Pioneer, they said they hadnt heard of anything and to send it to service. Problem with that is I know they wond find anything wrong with it and there isnt a service center within 300 miles of here that will touch navigation. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yea, sounds like thermal shutdown to me.  I don't believe Pioneer decks have this feature so it's probably a defective unit.

Yes, it is over heating. I have had the same problem for about 6 months. It eventually died and I just got mine out of the shop. The internal fan stop working, the unit over heated, yada yada yada, I needed a new motherboard. $500. Seems to be OK now.
