i just finished hookin up my system.
whenever i plug in my rca to the amp, it goes in protection.
can someone help me?

if it only does this when you plug in the RCA's, either your RCA cable has a been pinched and is shorting to ground or each other, or you have a problem with the preouts in your head unit. my guess is going to be the RCA cables. check that first. if you have a DMM(multimeter) you can do a continuity test between chassis ground and the RCA cable and between both channels of the RCA.

how do i do i test to figure that out?
do i need to purchase a multimeter and touch the chassic with the pointer thingie?

oh and i was wondering which color of rca cables goes where.
behind my HU, i have two rca receptors. one is white and one is red.
right now the black rca is conneceted to white and red with red. is this right?

Agreed. Sounds to me like it's time to get some help from an installer, or you really need to do some research before you touch the system again. I suggest you begin HERE and spend a few days reading so you understand a little more about what you're doing. Then come back and ask questions to help clarify. ------------- Support the12volt.com
