Do you have a 300A alternator? If not, all you have to do is make certain your isolator is rated at more than the alternator. If you have not upgraded your alternator, and you are still running a stocker, the 200A isolator will do fine.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Yeah, 200A is fine. If necessary, you can get 2 & run them in parallel.

What is normal anyway???

Does the Isolator have to be rated higher than the alternator? What if I have an 80 Amp alternator, and I get an 80 Amp Isolator? Will that be okay?

Doesn't allow much leeway... If you have an 80A alternator, I'd step up (for the extra $1.50) to a 100A isolator model.

Makes sense, it's just that I found an 80 Amp isolator for really cheap. Now I gotta check out the 100 Amp isolators.

rookie question what are the benefits in having an battery isolator?

Mainly, it keeps the main battery that runs the car seperated from the stereo's battery so that if you run it down, it won't drain the car's battery.

Um...there aren't really any benefits...it helps keep the main battery under the hood charged if you're playing the system without the engine running. It won't add any power to the system

Isn't that what I said? Anyhow, I would consider having the car's main battery remain reliable a benefit. Necessary, no. But nice.

Yeah, I reread what you said like 4 times to make sure & I was like, "That sounds the same." OK, I'm feeling my thunder again.
