i just tried to put my panasonic HU in and it wont turn on..
there is no room back there for the wires and it sits up really far. so i figured i would mess with it later so i left it. i put everything back and hook up the battery and it wont work...
i got a metra wiring harness, and the mounting kit is fine, and the ant adaptor is fine. something has to be wrong with that wiring harness..
i plugged the car wire thing into the wiring harness and soldered all those wires into the plug that came with the HU.. and it doesnt work.. if that makes any sense..
i have a 2001 cavalier.
you need to find a switched wire on that particular car i believe. I'm pretty sure you can just go to the heater controls and i wanna say brown is a swiched wire. not positive though be sure to test your wires. i'm not positive but check on your harness where the red switched wire from your unit goes to on the plug check if right on the other side there is a wire or not. not sure if that was the greatest wording.
or you could just go to your ignition wires and accessory should be an orange if i remember right from doing a remote start on this a while back. well hope it goes well for ya.
Ideally you should buy a radio replacement module for your car. The original radio is controlled via a data signal from the cars BCM. The radio also handles the chime functions in the car. A module will take care of the chime functions as well as give you an ignition source wire to turn your radio on. Your car may not pass a safety inspection without the chimes working. They are also designed to remond you about seatbelts not fastened and lights left on. If you don't wish to do it the correct way, then use the thick brown wire in the ignition switch harness for power. It is the accesssory wire. Use an inline fuse for safety. The brown wire is fused too high for the radio to be safe.
