Hi folks,

I have just bought a 2001 Volvo S60.  It has a stock 6-speaker system.  Fronts are two speaker sets (tweeter and full-range I think).

Playing with the balance and fader I found that in the left front speaker pair only the tweeter has sound.  The larger lower-door speaker (mid or full range I guess) is dead.

Now, since I have signal to the tweeter and it looks like its a single pair wire to that channel, can I assume the radio is fine and its the speaker or crossover ?

Does anyone know if these have an external crossover or if its just a cap or cap_res mounted on the speaker ?

Don't make assumptions.  Do the obvious:  open the door and get to the speaker.  Check to see if a wire is disconnected.

...or post this question on ten car audio forums and wait around with the hope that there's someone out there who cares enough about the stock system in a 2001 Volvo to have already checked this out.

Well, as the car is at the detail shop currently I thought I would be productive and do some homework ahead of time.

I was hoping someone might recall if this car had a separate crossover or if it was a common type of failure.

Sorry...sounds like you're doing the right thing with your idle time.  I'm not familiar with that car.
