working on a 2005 cadillac escalade with the bose system the head unit is the touch screen nav unit the factory sub is in the center console. i think the bose amp is also in the console i started to tear into it and i cant seem to get much further than beneath the fake wood trim piecies. the carpet lower sides seem to be the console itself. we ran out of time today to get much further, I figure someone has done this before and can help me out with some info. i figure the best thing to do would be to tap the amplified signal from the factory amp then run it to a converter to my amps jl audio 500/1. any input would be great thanks in advance

To the best of my knowledge the bose amp is under the console and tapping the adaptor to the sub wires is the way to go. Unfortunatly I don't remember how to disassemble it, it's been a while but I do not remember it being difficult so if know one else posts the procedure I am sure you will figure it out yourself. Just keep looking for things that snap off and hidden screws. It's a GM so you can expect it to be built poorly (don't get mad any GM lovers, I own a few so this is why I know..lol) good Luck -------------

thanks does anyone know the sub wire colors i can get to the harness and was trying to aviod pulling the console apart yes i have installed for several years but i took a 3 year break and i am gettiing back into the retail game . so many things have changed. thanks again

If no one posts the sub wire colors you can use a test speaker to find it. Simply play the deck at a moderate volume and touch the test speaker wires to the suspect wires at the amp..the pair that are just playing sub and not full range are the sub wires at the amp of course,, hope I helped -------------

just a update im sure this will save some one some time. of course verify anything for yourself befor you attempt any install or alteration. if you remove the factor in console 5 disc changer (din size). pull on the harness behind the changer slot, you will see the harness clip to the left. you can unplug the factory woofer and get acess to the wires, they are twisted together in pairs. there is your sub signal.

So...you tapped into the source wires from the factory subwoofer to add a line level converter for external amplifiers? Might you happen to know the color of the wires that need to be tapped/spliced into? I am doing an install much like the one you speak of having performed. The plan is to add a 250/1 JL Audio amp and a 10" JL Audio ported enclosure. In most cases with the line level converter you would tap into the rear speaker leads off of the head unit. Sounds like according to this post that you can tap/splice off of the source lead wires from the factory subwoofer to add the line level converter. Am I correct in this assumption? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks-

Yes, when adding a sub to a factory system, you should always get signal at the factory sub if there is one. Otherwise, the front/rear speakers may have a high pass crossover built into the factory amp, and you may not get much bass.

In response to this question how many wires would an individual be looking for that connect to the factory subwoofer and what color might these wires be? Also...could an individual tap into the stock subwoofer leave it connected and still use an aftermarket amplifier/subwoofer? Will this cause any sort of issue? Thanks to anyone who can provide a concise answer! |

If it's the same as on the Tahoe, I remember there being a dual voice coil sub (4 wires). I don't remember wire colors, but the terminals were much like what you would see on most aftermarket speakers, where the positive terminal was bigger than the negative terminal.
If you're not going to remove the sub (extra work), at least disconnect it. It wouldn't sound right to have two subs playing in different locations, of different sizes, brands, etc. Leaving the factory sub connected could also lower the bass output since you'd probably have some cancellation.
