hey guys i narrowed my amps down to these 2...im not to sure which route to go, i can get the eclipse for $190 https://www.eclipse-web.com/amp/ea4000.html or i can get the zapco for $380 https://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=597 now i like eclipse and i know they have good stuff, but is this a crapy cheap amp with the eclipse name on it? as far as zapco goes everyone says good things about them....so is the zapco really worth the extra $190? are the numbers accurate for each amp? the eclipse puts out 2x150w @4ohm while the zapco puts out 100w @ 4ohms or 175w @2ohm this is for some cdt 60's so i want to make sure theese spekaers have a good amp for them thnx guys :) i like to give them 150 watts each

Either amp will do nicely...and saying that Eclipse makes crap amps is a sin...all eclipse amps are high quality good equipment.
The Eclipse amp you linked is a 4 channel while the Zapco is a 2 channel.
It's a hard decision but I would say the Zapco just because Zapco is badass

yea i know, i know eclipse is good, but maybe they went to crap and that is why i cna get that particular amp cheaper then i thought i would...and i am temped to go the zapco way, for the same reason you say, cause its zapco...but the $200 differnce is making it differcult

If money is an issue go with the eclipse..buy it from a reputable place that will allow you to return it if you are unstatisfied. The power ratings themselves if close to honest is not enough to notice a sustantial difference in output.

I'd take that Zapco in a heart beat. The numbers speak for themselves. Besides the components used in the Zapco are of a much higher quality and must meet higher tolerances.
Isn't that Eclipse a digital amp? It just isn't right to run digital unless for sub use.

what in the name of all that's holy is a "digital" amp. I was always under the impression that audio is analog. even if it uses fiber optics..which is actually a good thing..it still has to go thru a D/A converter before it gets amplified.

A "digital" amp is a switching amp. Class D, T or Ice Power. I'd buy the Zapco. ------------- Support the12volt.com

ahhh...see... good to ask questions..I know a class D uses switch mode vs. linear but I thought the term "digital amp" was a marketing ploy. Thanks. Regardless the Eclipse amp on the link in the post is a 4/3/2 channel mosfet..I don't see any info at all stating it is class D. I agree that the specs on the Zapco (s/n, thd)are better and it puts out about 50w more @ 4ohm brigded, but not $200 worth of better IMO. But I am a cheapskate..lol -------------

im a cheapstake 2, but only because i know what something can really be had for, im using the amp for components, not a sub, another reason why i want to get the right amp for these, im still not sure if i should use my ppi art amp instead and use the money for a new alpine hu...i am looking for quality, thats why im still leaning the zapco way....whats the differnce with a digatal amp vs analog amp? wouldnt a digatal amp be beter suited for componets? do you guys think a ppi art a300 will work good for these speakers

First off..if you have an old PPI art series I personally love those and would use it and save the money..well something any cheapskate would do..lol What was meant by a "digital" amp is a class D..which most are really designed for subwoofer mono applications, not the best choice for components. A "non" class D amp may be referred to as an "analog" or "linear" amp which has to do with the type of internal "switching". Class D amps are more efficient then a class AB..which is what 99% of 2 and 4 channel amps are. So no, a class D or "digital" if you wish to call it is not best suited for components unless it is a special application class D incorporating corrective circuitry..I have not seen too many of those so I would imagine they are rare or expensive. There are also class A amplifiers..which are not very efficient at all (maybe 50%) but many audiophiles swear by them. There is also another class called class T, which refers to "tripath" which is a technology that claims lower cost...extremely high efficiency (like 90%), basically like a digital amp but claim the sound quality of an A or AB. I have not tested a class T amplifier so I can not post a personal opinion on that. But use the PPI.....I can't see anything wrong with that. -------------

I sell both, the Eclipse at your pricing is a steal. It is a solid amp. Want to spend the $ the Zapco commands, then look at the big Eclipse XA4000. Full range class D amp topology is here today. Eclipse has had it in their line for awhile now, same with Xtant. After it had proven itself, the licenses paid for etc, Alpine PDX amps came out and Pioneer Premiere amps came out. IT works, it works amazingly great, it sounds even better. Next year there will be far more amps on the market that embrace the new circuit topology. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

The eclipse XA line are all class D ICEpower amps. just like the alpine pdx series. These are actually slowly proving to be much better than your typical class a/b multi channel amp. The EA line however are still class A/B. either way you go, eclipse is always a great choice.

Cool, thats good to know since I plan on taking a new job at a high end shop again, the place I was at last is mid level and didn't really have the new technologies or high end lines. Are these amps considerably more expensive? Sounds to me like a good thing however, can't wait to try a few.

all of these prices are taken from the cardomain website. since they are an online authorized dealer, their prices will be a lot closer to what a local retailer will sell them for than what ebay will have. EA4000 $299 (onsale right now for $199) 75RMS X 4 XA4000 $450 125RMS X 4

yes, very clean. from what I hear, there were 2 world champs this year using the full range clas D ICEpower amps. Here is a link to a review and bench test of the XA2000 done by CA&E mag. https://www.caraudiomag.com/testreports/0609_cae_eclipse_xa2000_amp/

I know..it's just amazing how new technologies come out or change and some ideas you always knew about are obsolete. This site keeps me updated especially since i hardly have time to read any industry publications anymore due to being online alot or installing. thanks again -------------
