I just bought a 97 Pathfinder SE and it has an aftermarket intalled. One front speaker has severe cracking and one rear speaker (opposite sides) doesn't work at all. Without pulling the stereo out, does this sound like it was installed w/o the integration adapter? The stereo is silver, so it looks out of place in the dash, was thinking of trying to get an OEM. How hard is it to but an OEM Bose in? Is there anyway to tell if there was a bose in it before? Any advice appreciated.
thanks Rick
Sounds like fried speakers and/or head unit. Time for a little troubleshooting to isolate the problem. Take one of the known good speakers and swap it into the problem locations to tell if its the head or if you just need to replace the speakers. As far as trying to install an OEM Bose system, even if you could find a dealer who will sell you a complete system with the proper speakers, amps, etc. I predict the cost of the system would easily exceed the cost of a more aesthetically pleasing aftermarket system, and the sound of Bose blows in comparison to what you can achieve for less money. Go to a good car stereo shop in your area and make a deal.
