I have a JBL Decade amp that I'm not sure whats going on with it. It is a model DA1002 (100wX2). I have not used it in a couple years due to the fact that one day it just stopped working. When you first hook it up the internal fan spins and then is back to coma stage. The power light does not light any more and I just want to get some advice from some professionals about whether it may worth tearing apart and looking at or not. I know its not a real expensive amp but it did work nice when it worked. Many times I was tempted to chuck it in the garbage but decided against it due to the price of it when I bought it. I finally got a meter the other day so can someone tell me if there is a way I can tear apart and confirm that this is a dead unit. I did tear it apart one day and it did not appear to look or smell fried.( The only reason I say this is because I fried an amp before and it had a odor that left me without any doubts of trashing it :oops:) Thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out

If you don't already know what you're doing it is highly unlikely you will be able to tell what if anything is damaged in the amp and fix it yourself, especially just using a multimeter. Having an amp repaired will cost between $75 and $300 depending on who does it and what's wrong. If it's worth it to you then have it repaired by a pro. ------------- Support the12volt.com

If you have access to an ohm meter and tools to take it apart we can let you know if it is going to be a 75 dollar or a 300 dollar repair.

That would be great! I can take it apart tomorrow at work. What should I do? If its 300 dollars I'm gonn junk it, but if it would be 75 or so I may consider it. I'm just curious about what it may be wrong with it. I don't care if I would go to alot of work and be unable to fix it. The expierence to me is well worth that time. The only way I feel i can learn something is to do hands on work. I appreciate your time.

thats a good trait to have nowadays, i havnt the slightest idea whats wrong with your amp if it turns on for a lil bit then turns off, best of luck to ya xD

it wont actually turn on at all. When I first hook up the 12v power the cooling fan(the one in the side that you can see) spins and thats it.

its all up to you man, i personally love the older jbl amps, i have a 150.1, it puts out amazing clear sound....
its all about what its worth to you, things get old.. maybe time for an upgrade?
