Has anyone seen the quick disconnect plugs for speaker wires on the PDX 4.150? The plugs can be turned around so the (+) is facing outward and the (-) inwards or you can reverse the plug. It seems that doing so would reverse polarity. The Alpine manual says it does not matter what direction that you mount the plug??? The amp does not designate which terminal is (+) or (-) for each speaker output. Very confusing.... Thanks!

Bob? (this is really a bump, to allow tcss more time to get in here with a response...)
What I would say is that it won't matter at all, as long as the positives of all the speakers are hooked to the same terminals in the QDs, and the QDs are all inserted into the amplifier's jack THE SAME WAY, the phase will all be correct.
While absolute phase might not be correct, the speakers will all be phased with each other, and this is the important issue at hand.
------------- It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Isn't it true that the quick disconnects orientation will effect the amount of bass at the speakers? I would think correct polarity would have a profound effect on sound. This is why we do the 9 volt battery test afterall; no? Thanks for the reply.

If only one speaker is out of phase, RELATIVE TO THE OTHER(S), yes, it will affect the overall bass response. If they all "push out" at the same time, which will be assured by making sure all the SPEAKER POSITIVES are all connected to either the SAME terminals on the amp, all will be fine. ------------- It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. OK...thanks. For some reason I thought that if the polarity on all speakers were reversed, that there may be less bass. Say that my disconnects may be plugged in so the positive side of the amp is going into the negative wires of all speakers. I know inverting the phase 180* on a sub will effect bass level. Am I confusing phase and polarity here? Thanks!

Yes, you are confusing them... Polarity, as long as they are all the SAME, will not affect output. PHASE, on the other hand, if one is out of phase (or reversed polarity, relative to another driver in the system) WILL affect output.

Gotcha. Thanks much!

Sorry I'm asleep at the switch Dave. How have you been? How's the stereo coming along? While it is possible to wire a 4.150 out of phase, the plugs have distinct pos and neg markings which would make it unlikely to make this mistake.

True; the plugs are labeled but the amp isn't. The plugs can be oriented two different ways. Pull the plug out, turn it 180* and plug it back into the amp. The socket in the amp is not labeled (+) or (-). ??? The directions say that plug orientation makes no difference. Very weak directions if you ask me. Why is every other brand amp labeled specifically (+) and (-)? Thanks.

Sounds so good, I don't even miss the subs! Kidding. I need my bass, man! I lent the 500 bucks that i was gonna buy enclosures with, to a friend for a deposit on an apartment, and she hasn't paid me back yet... You guys are gonna see me again, once she pays me back! ------------- It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice.
