My amplifier fuse blew a little while ago when it started getting colder outside. I put in a new fuse and as soon as i reconnect the batery terminal wires the fuse blows again. why does this happen?

Fuse at battery or at splitter or in amplifier? Does it blow when you turn the key to acc or when you turn the radio on or with key and radio off? Does that fuse also feed a cap?

the fuse is in the amplifier. It blows as soon as i connect the battery terminal attachment back on again (because i disconnected it before i put the new fuse in, so there was no completed circuit when putting in the new fuse). There is no capacitor in the circuit.
thanks

I don't think it's temperature related. Shake the amp to see if you have loose parts inside which might be causing the short circuit and if it isn't beyond your capability, open the amp and look for parts that might look burned or smell funny. It might even be a faulty power supply.

Now you don't want to take it apart if it's still under warranty, in many warranty agreements this will void the warranty.

Yes many times there will be a sticker on the bottom stating if it is opened up and ripped it will void the warranty...I'd take it to a shop and have em test it...then send it back and get a new one if its still under the warranty.

My friend took his Memphis 1000D to the shop to have it tested and it blew the circuit breaker in the garage lol...good as a paperweight

As Big Dog asked above is your radio turned on when inserting the fuse?

The reason he asked this question was to aid us in helping you.        With this info we can tell you if the power supply is out  or if you have shorted output transistors or shorted rectifier diodes.  But we need to know if the fuse blows with your radio turned off?

Amp is pooched. Needs repair. End of story, sorry.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Your amp is Broken but it is the end of the story only if you want it to be.

The power supply of your amp is bad   The parts that are bad are available if you want to try and fix it.    You never told us, what kind of amp do you have?

it's a bazooka. i was reluctant to buy it from my friend in the first place, and it was pretty much just a tie over for a few weeks, but ended up being longer. i had a decent kenwood but it was stolen. So i purhcased this bazooka amp from my buddy. it worked perfect for about 6 months then this. but whatever i needed something better anyways.

thanks for your help
