Alright so I installed my Alpine 9856 on my own and it was pretty easy.
I had it all hooked up and working for about a week, and had always listened to it on volume levels of about 14-22 out of 40.
Then one day I turned it up to 28 and it just immediately shut off, and I have not been able to get it back on since.
It is only running 2 4" Infinity Kappa 42.7i's so i don't see how I could have blown anything.
I hit the reset button and nothing happened.
I checked all the fuses and they seemed to be fine, but I replaced them anyway. I tried a new fuse in the headunit and the car's audio fuse to no avail,
the thing acts like it doesnt get any power.
So I checked the harness and the Red wire is getting a full 12V, so I don't know what to do next.
It worked perfect til I turned it up a little.
Since i didn't use the other speaker wires i just cut them really short off the harness, but i forgot to tape off the ends, could that cause this to blow?
I'm frustrated and sick of this already.

You need to check voltage on the yellow wire too. This is the wire that feeds the amplifier section of the radio, chances are there is no power on this wire.

Alright the yellow power wire is receiving no power, so what should i do?
Cut the wire very short on the harness, strip it and and butt splice a new wire going straight to the positive terminal on the battery?

I would look for the blown fuse in your fuse box If you tell them what kind of vehicle have, they can probably tell you where the fuse is located. Running a wire to the battery is a LAST resort.

the main audio fuse is fine, i even popped in a different fuse just to make sure, it made no difference.

check ALL the fuses the battery feed probably runs off of the cigarette lighter/power point,or possibly off the dome lamp fuses

there will be two seperate fuses you have to check in most vehicles, one will supply power to the yellow wire at your deck harness and one will supply power to the red wire at your deck, check them both

did you actually test them with a test light or a multimeter or did you look at them cause if you just looked at them it will not be suffecient because some fuses can blow and you won't be able to really see the gap between the two metal ends, there will basically be a hairline break between them that your eye might not be able to see

in that vehicle there might be a fuse box under the hood in the engine compartment you should check to

Can you tell us WHAT VEHICLE WE ARE DEALING WITH? it would be much easier to tell you which fuse you are looking for. There are 2 fuses necessary to get your radio working the audio fuse is obviously for the RED / Switched wire. The one for the yellow wire is going to be labeled something else. If we know what kind of vehicle it is we can tell you where the fuse is and what it is going to be labeled.

Alrighty,
I drive a 1988 Mazda 323 GTX.
The fusebox in the engine compartment just has 5 large box style fuses, and they are fuses such as Fuel Injection, ignition, etc.
I have a 800 page Factory Service Manual so I know where the fuse boxes are,
but yeah i just checked with a visual inspection,
i'll go through every fuse with a multimeter this time,
although replacing the headunit and audio fuses with different ones didnt help.

alright, i checked every single fuse in the box for continuity and they are all okay,
even the mini one in the headunit is fine.

alright i'm pretty much about ready to just run a new wire to my battery and back to the yellow wire on the harness, and save me all this hassle.
It would only take 5 minutes anyway.

sorry for the quadruple post, but it seems like you cant edit on this forum.
Anyway found the problem the old kenwood stereo that was in before my Alpine didnt have the fuse directly on the headunit instead, little mini fuse boxes were placed on the wires.
The box on the red wire was clearly visible, and I had already taken that out, but the box on the yellow wire was shoved way back in there and was not visible at all.
Luckily i found it when i was pulling wires.
Works great again now though, and i Thank you all for your help.
I'll probably be back.
