I know this topic is out there all the time, but I thought I would ask for some help. I am needing to get a new HOA, cause my old one died. I had previously one from Mech Man, and I don't want to get the next from them as I was not impressed with it. I have been looking at all the posts and I am just not sure what would be best for me. My vehicle is a 2000 Suburban and I will have around 3000 watts running. Of course that is RMS, but that is what I have to go by. I have already updated the Big 3 with my last HOA, so I need to now find the best HOA for my situation. I have been looking at the Iraggi Alternators since that is what I have found to be a rather popular HOA. I guess my biggest question is about the difference between the "Dominator" and "Amputator" series. I also want to find an HOA that has a high Idle output. If anyone out there has any suggestions, I would love to hear from you. Especially those of you that have purchased HOA's for a GM vehicle similar to mine.

I own a 92 Suburban.  My friend bought a "HO" alternator from Mech Man & he wasn't too thrilled with it, either.  Try www.4alterstart.com.  They're out of Texas & build "Load Boss" alternators.  They give you a 2 yr warranty, a performance sheet (i.e. what amperage is output at what RPM.  Idle, full blast etc), fast shipping & reasonable prices.  I've ordered two from them, so far. One for my Honda Civic (135 amp)& a 200 amp version for the Suburban.  The Suburban's cost me $250 ($272 delivered) .  Here are the specs:

It puts out 107.7 amps @ 833RPM (idle),

it reaches it's rated output (204 amps) @ 1666RPM,

It reaches max output of 219.6 amps @ 2666RPM

The one's they carry for 96-04 chevy trucks are 200-275amps. Ranging in price from $275-450.

These alternators are NEW, not rebuilds or refurbs.  Look into it.  And no, I don't work for them.
