I just installed a Blaupunkt Monterrey cd head unit into this vehicle. This install was straight forward, but I have two questions:
1. Do they make an adapter that will intergrate the after market radio to the steering wheel control?
2. I was puzzled when the new radio worked with only the constant 12 volts being connected.

FYI: I just found out there is not steering wheel adapter for this vehicle and the Blaupunkt will only work for an hour if only the constant 12 volt wire is connected.

1. It may be possible to rewire the factory controls to use different value resistors to ground for each function. (*If you cut any wires, just be sure you leave enough length so you can put it back to factory later, if the customer wants.*) Then you can use a universal adapter. Keep in mind if you do this that you may need to use one wire for a ground since the steering column itself is many times not sufficient, and can give you sporadic operation.
2. I don't understand what you're asking. Hook up the switched wire too.

In response to #2.
The stereo works without a remote wire because the factory amp has a current sensing "input" built into it. I believe the voltage sensing comes from the front left channel of the Monsoon amp. However, it's still just a line-level amplifier. I'm in the process of replacing my wife's Monsoon amp with an aftermarket unit.

Uh, wrong login, dude. So you mean you did connect the switched wire, just not the amp turn on lead. That wire is not required on the Monsoon systems. However, if the switched wire is not hooked up, the stereo won't turn on.

Correct.
I tapped into the w/wiper circuit for +12v switched power. When I referenced the remote wire not being required, I'm referring to the aftermarket h/u, amp turn-on lead not needing to be hooked to the Monsoon amp. As far as the stereo working with only +12v constant hooked up, the only way I could see that happening, is if the +12v switched & constant are hooked to the same source.
