2006 Ford F250 Superduty.

Do you need to keep the tweeter within 6-8 inches of the mid for proper phasing or sound quality? Should I mount them on the A-pillers? They would be about 15 inches away.

15 inches away...and rite in your face. prolly NOT the best place for a tweeter. It also depends on the cross over point at wich you can put on the tweeter. I would look to mount them a bit lower....maybe on the door panal.

i remember we use to do a lot of work on the ford 150's and 250's, we would take out the old speakers and  just build a plate for both the mid and the tweet in the same hole

I dont do a ton of car audio but I have had really good luck with tweeter placement directly underneath the door speaker in that truck. We usually run Infinity 6x8 components in these trucks because they fit right in but if you are using 6 1/2s or 5 1/4s building the plate like snhtown said would probably be ideal.
