I would like to upgrade the audio system on my van and keep the remote head set option. Is this posible has anyone done it?

By the way I have a 1992 Aerostar with AM /FM radio, not EQ and No Amp. The stock wiring harness is in place and works.

Thanks for any info.

Gordon

with the EQ it is certainly doable....

without EQ it's doable only if you can find a common ground radio to put in...which is gonna be pretty hard to find these days as everything has been floating ground for years...... otherwise if you replace the HU you'll have to run new spkr wiring and lose the RSA feature.....

Hi I know that the rear speakers have 2 wires from the remote head phones behind drivers seat, and the front speakers have 2 wires but they are tied up in the harness. This info I got from the ford service manual. What I do not know is is the premium AM FM radio is the same as the basic AM FM radio with wires removed from the connectors.

I think I can add an amp for the rear speakers. By accessing the C259 connector by the drivers side door pillar. It looks like at the connector mentioned above I can get to all the wires for the rear speakers. I also think I can keep the remote head phone module, but loose the switch that turns off the rear speakers.  More thought and investigation has to be done. I also have to keep in mind that the speakers are wired in parallel there fore are a 4 ohm on the amp. Also the wire size is small, maybe 16 gauge or smaller. I have not checked the colour coding on the diagram. The wiring diagram I got from ford service manual but they have been known to be wrong.

Here is a link to where I have info on 1992 Ford Aerostar and other stuff. I have put a picture of the rear wiring harness at this link.

If you have any input on the project would be glad to hear it.
