Subject: Remote Wire Issue

I setup a amp and 2-12" Subs in the trunk of my 2000 Audi A6 w/ Bose Symphony Stereo. I used the installation by RedGoat as a guide ( https://www.audiforums.com/m_318162/tm.htm if you aren't familiar ). The Amp is having issues getting the remote signal from the factory amp. I checked the connection from the factory amp and the remote wire I setup was not getting power. I disconnected the remote I tapped. Then tested my amp by using an ordinary switch. Connected one side with a wire to the amps power in, connected the other side to the amps remote in. When I flipped the switch on the amp was powered and worked fine. I used it like this for a while but am currently tired of manually turning the amp on and off everytime I go in and out the car. Using a tester I checked the factory amp wiring harness (unplugged) to see if I tapped the wrong remote wire to begin with (the white one). I tested the power (RED / blue) and the power was coming steady with the car on or off. I tested the remote (white) and was getting a pulsing signal with the car turned on/off. While the pulsing is going on, I also get a ticking noise from the factory amp. Any ideas on whats going on?

run it to the radios acc wire.

just tried that, no luck. It is reacting the same way the factory amps wire is.

Many of those German makes have a barrier strip accessible if you drop the under dash. You can test for accessory/ignition there- no need to even tap into a wire, just crimp a lug onto your wire, and hook it up.

What about trying a low voltage trigger from that amp wire? It is nice haveing the amp turn on and off with the radio.

try a relay or the acc wire...I know in my explorer my alpine deck's remote wire isn't strong enough to turn on the factory amp and my sub amp so I put a relay behind the dash

I think I have the same problem the remote isnt strong enough to turn on both. Im kinda new to this though (the troubleshooting part, usually everything works the first time) so I will need more info on the ways to do it so I do things correctly. If you have time please explain it to a noob

Audi_foshizzle,

check this out: https://www.the12volt.com/relays/page5.asp#rtol

87camry,

the reason you have no sound is because the protect light is on. If you only hook up power, ground, and remote turn on (disconnect rca cables and speaker wires), does the protect light stay on? If so, the amp is fried. If it does not, there's a problem in either the wiring (speakers or rca cables), the speakers themselves, or you're trying to hook up the amp in a way it was not designed to be hooked up.

its probably that im hooking stuff up in a way it was not intended to be hooked up. I put a switch on the subwoofer amp (not the factory one) a wire ran from the remote of the amp to one side of the switch, a wire from the amp power to the other side of the switch. This way its sounds fine, it just wont go off/on with the radio. Which lets me know the store bought amp is fine. The factory amp sends sound to the factory subs in the sidewall of the trunk. I have been told that there are issues with the bose systems that they put in these Audis (for instance to put in an aftermarket radio you must hardwire it, and I hear there are issues with replacing the speakers that make it necessary to re-wire em), so I am lost. Hooking up the usual way that any car uses the remote wire to the radio power on/off wire causes a clicking noise to come from the factory amp and no sound from any speaker. Even when I test the radio on/off wire before or after the the factory amp or radio the sound cuts off and the clicking noise starts accompanied by the wire tester pulsing on/off in sync with the clicking noise (sounds like a metronome)

Again, try dropping the underdash and looking for that barrier strip. You should be able to locate a suitable ignition source there that will switch the amp on/off.
