I got a 10" Alpine Type R and want to build a new box to experiment. I was thinking of building a slotted box. And also I am constrained for space. the box can be about 13' height, 15' length and maybe 13-14' max width. The slot would be on the side The volume of the box with the constraints would be about 1 cu.ft. So how wide and long the slot should be? any other suggestions?

or should I make a ported one ? how big of a port do I need? how long?

that is small for a ported box, what is it going in and why so little space. you would probably have better luck making it sealed.

I can get it to about 1.2 cu.ft I think. Alpine recommends 1.25 cu.ft for this woofer for a ported enclosure. I think it should be good.

I am looking to get the maximum bang with minimum space. I have a sealed sonotube enclosure right now but somehow I am not too happy with it.

If you want a ported enclosure than you must have room...sorry man but you gotta stick with sealed

yup, it will sound worse. your going to have so much port noise it will sound bad. what kind of car is it going into, why can you only have that much space? is it because you need room for storage or sumthing? if all else fails, build a bigger sealed box to get lower bass. otherwise i dont know what to tell you

Type R's like big boxes and long ports. You'll probably end up with less-than-stellar low end and an impossibly long port length with such a small airspace. You might want to look into a different sub if space is such a factor. Look into the WinISD sticky and spend some time on design using the program.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.
