Cassette Adaptors

Hi guys, I'm trying to modify a cassette adapter for better sound (assuming this is possible). The adapter was picking up a significant amount of what sounds like 60 hz hum. I replaced the unshielded stereo cable from the adapter with a shielded stereo cable which did help to remove some of the hum, however it is still noticeable. When I plug my mp3 player into my inverter for power, the 60 hz hum increases significantly. I'm assuming that the shielding for the stereo cable isn't properly grounded, but I'm not sure where to ground it to. If any of you have any ideas I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!

try an fm modulator for your mp3 player, did you try a new cassette adapter? go out and buy a new one, they are only like $10 if that.

Rather than using an inverter, try using an iPod cigarette lighter adapter. Why not upgrade the headunit to one that has an auxiliary input (much cleaner)? Otherwise, try the fm mod as suggested above.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I tried the FM modulator, but the quality of the sound was lacking. The frequency spectrum of the audio wasn't making it to the radio. :(

The cigarette lighter adapter sounds like an interesting idea. I haven't thought about the electrical noise considerations of the inverter. Truth to tell it hadn't occurred to me at all that there might be noise issues.

Well, I can't replace the head unit since it also includes an LCD screen for GPS functionality, diagnostic displays, and rear view camera.

I'm thinking about just taking the ground shield that I added to the cassette adaptor and grounding it to the vehicle chassis.
