Wondering what all different types of factory radios will fit in a '92 firebird?  Looking for something with cd player, mp3 capability would be a plus.  I know it has to be a din and a half in size, been looking around and seeing alot of radios pulled out from newer vehicles with the same type plug in.  Curious also if the monsoon radios would work.

You can use almost any type of Pontiac radio, din and a half in size. They are easily recognized as all Pontiac radios have a gray face. There are a few that have slightly different metal tabs on either side which mount the radio. These are for Montana vans. The Monsoon on the radio is only silk screening. It is simply a label indicating that there is an amp in the system. The radio is the same as the others. Unfortunately, none of the Pontiac radios in that size chassis can play MP3s. If it were my car, I wouldn't go with a factory unit. I would go with a good aftermarket one. You will get more features and better sound even if the rest of the system is still factory. It will be easier to upgrade the system too if the need arises.

yes, why not just upgrade to an aftermarket HU. much better sound reproduction and most now-a-days have mp3 features. are you trying to keep a stock player to keep the car looking stock? if so you could buy a cd changer that has an mp3 player function and you can hide it in the back.

Biggest reason I was looking at the stock type radios was due to size, didn't really want to put an adapter to close the hole down to a single din size, and I honestly figured a factory type radio would probably be cheaper.

depends where you get them from, i wouldnt waste my time with factory radios. you can go out and buy a double din cd/cassette player if you didnt want the mounting kid for a single din HU.

There are 1.5 din aftermarket radios out there, You can get one for a reasonable price. If you plan to keep the vehicle or not, it would be the way to go. If I was in your shoes, I would go with single din. There is just more options and difference is only 1/4" on top and bottom.
