Hi

From what I can remember if you used the autoleads iso then in certain vw's this will happen.  On your headunit try switching the yellow and red, so red goes to yellow and yellow to red on ur harness.  What model golf is it then maybe i can help a bit more. Do you have a multimeter handy? Some vw's i think mk2 and early mk3 but don't quote me, the autoleads joinsthe ignition and battery wire so the headunit is always on.

If you have no luck pm me and i can look it up tonight, im in oxford area, u?

should bea yellow and red on the headunit wires, yellow is battery, red is ignition, a lot of cars you need to swap them around.  i know what you mean about there being loads of wires an no space in the mk3.  sounds like u might need to swap them. let me know if it works.

So--- did you not try switching the RED / yellow wires? Did you also make sure they both are getting power? If you have one and not the other (switched, but no constant, or vice versa), try running your own wire from the ignition harness. Drop the under dash and check for a barrier strip. If you have one, there should be a few constant wires, and an ignition wire. You can just crimp an end on your wire, back off a screw, and hook it up. Constant goes to the yellow wire on your radio, ignition (switched) goes to the red. If you run your own wires, use a fuse at your connection point.

My ex once told me I have a perfect face for radio.
