aight well i have 2 dvc 4ohm mtx 5500's running off an alpine mrp-350 amp with an alpine headunit..the subs sound great with the bass at -7 (lowest setting) and sub control at +8(goes to 15) and the volume at around 20(not even 75% of the max)..as soon as i turn the volume or settings past any of that, the subs cut out and i have to turn off my headunit and turn it back on..i dont know if thats good or bad or what i need to fix it but any advice would help

How are the subs wired?  How is the gain set?

turn bass to zero and sub to zero - then re-set your amp gain.
then see what happens

disconnect the woofers and see if the amp will turn on and stay on

that is more or less the way to wire them.... the subs tho
it could be a gain issue or maybe even a bad ground...
