The future of car audio

Just wanted to get your guys inputs about the future of our business.  You hear a lot of speculation about car audio going under because of all the options manufacturers are including with their cars but if that were true then the same could be said about home theatre given that so many new home manufacturers are included built in home theatre systems that are included in the price of the house and therefore their mortgage payment.  There is also the argument that the manufacturers take their cues from the aftermarket which seems true and would indicate that we're going nowhere.  But, if the manufacturers wanted to bridge that gap, they could just hire some of the best aftermarket installers to show them what they're missing.  I kinda think that the business of deck and two's and satellites are gonna go away but the specialists will remain.  Anybody who works in retail knows that the sales of decks and satellites are goin down.  So what do you guys think?

I have been doing this for almost 13 years, sure I could adapt to something else if I had to, but this is what I know and love and want to do for a career.  I quit the electrical engineering program at asu because I just can't see myself in such a suit and tie/cubicle kind of career and decided to focus on getting better at what I know I love and I definitely have done that.  I'm about to spend a considerable amount of money on some Mobile Solutions training classes this weekend and I guess I'm just a little concerned about whether I should start broadening my horizons now or spend all my energy getting as good at this as I can so that maybe I can become a specialist and keep doing what I love.

tough call..... i've seen alot of changes in this industry in the past 25 years i've been in it..... in the retail sense we have to stop this insane "race to zero" price stuff...... new products that should be breathing life INTO our industry are non-issues now... Sat radio for example.....

if we can continue to make money installing new products and selling these products then we should be here for a while...... but if the products become so cheap that no one really cares how well it works then we are all in for a little "re-training"

from a service standpoint, the industry is already dead.... who in their right mind will pay to repair a unit they can replace for $99???       the guys i really pity are the guys who "re-trained" 15 years ago and took up VCR repair as a career, assuming every home in America will have one.....
