I have recently installed a Rockford Fosgate 1 farad bass capasitor in my car. It came with a lil microchip that I am supposed to install on the top of the cap to charge it. I ran my car for almost 2 hours yesterday and the charge light is still on. Does anyone know more a less a time frame on how long it will take for it to charge up becuase its not giving power to my amp.

put the chip on it give it power and check with a meter, after a while your voltage will stop rising and thats when you ditch the chip and give it straight power.

I'm ASSuming by the "charge lamp", you're referring to some sort of charge "indicator" on the cap itself, and not the microchip (heretofore referred to as a resistor).
We usually use a test light to charge caps. That way, you get visual confirmation (i.e., the test light not being lit) that the cap is charged. This is usually a 5-10 min ordeal
If, after 2 hours, you're STILL not getting a decent charge on your cap, you may wanna check to see if the cap itself is faulty (I've seen that from time to time) or if your connections to the battery are good.

I'd ditch the cap in whole...they don't do much at all.
That crap about one farad per 1000 watts is bull crap.
I'm sorry you wasted your money on that.

ASSuming you haven't installed a cap in while they actualy come with a chipboard that mounts to the cap that has an led, resistor, and wiring built in to it for initial charging. Check it with a meter and once it hits about 10V you should be good to install it.

I'm sure if you do a search here on capacitors you will know pretty much everyones opinion on caps.
If you REALLY wanna know the truth and capacitors you can read this write up by Richard Clark.
And every little bit helps?? caps don't help a weak charging system
