Hey everyone,
im currently driving a 1991 Subaru Liberty sedan and recntly purchased a full type-s alpine system but i am having a few problems with the speakers. The system is run by a Alpine CDA-9851 headeck with the front and rear speakers being run off the head units on board amplifier. The front speakers are ALpine SWS-171A components and the rears are SPS-17c2 Coaxials.
Problem: when i have the fader set on zero for equal sound in front and equal in rear and the volume is turned up past 11-12 the speakers begin to distort with a noticeable crackling sound. Its sound like the speakers in the front (componenets) are producing the most noticeable distortion sound. However, when the fader is set to around 10 in the rear and the volume turned to 16-17 there is no distortion or crackling at all and the music sounds clear. I have checked all the wiring and speakers for wear- one rear has a tiny hole in the rubber but the fronts are perfectly fine.
What could be causing this distortion/crackling sound and what can be done to fix it?
Any help would be muchly appreciated.
Thanks

Your internal amp is running out of power. There is nothing to be done to fix it, except run an external amplifier for the speakers.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

You did properly use the supplied crossovers with the components I assume?

Could the components up front be drawing 2Ohms from the HU and that is why it's fine when he fades it almost all to the rear?
