Hello-
I see that this topic has been covered before, but I just want to make sure I grasp the idea before ruining something.
I have a 2-Channel Amp:
4 Ohm: 100Wx2
2 Ohm: 200WX2
4 Ohm Bridged: 400Wx1
and a Sub:
450W RMS
4 Ohm DVC
Since I cannot use the mono output of the amp (only able to achieve a 2 or 8 Ohm load due to the DVC config, right?), would it be possible to run both channels to the Sub in parallel without a problem? That is, connecting both amp channel's positive leads to voice coil #1 positive and both negative leads to voice coil #2 negative. Does this effectively throw 400W at the speaker? If this is not advisable, am I stuck with 8-Ohm with my current setup?
Thanks for the help!
-Tim

No, that will damage your amp. Either use 8-ohms bridged or connect each VC to its own output channel (which is the same net effect, operating at the stereo 4-ohm rating.) ------------- Support the12volt.com

Thanks man.
I appreciate the feedback. So, by damaging my amp, do you mean that my suggested wiring would have effectively made the amp see a 2-Ohm load, similar to wiring the mono output in parallel? Or am I off the mark.
By wiring it as you suggested, does that mean that I bridge the channels, which would mean 400W at 4-Ohms, but then wire it in series to reach 8-Ohms and 200W to the speaker?

No, wiring it as you suggested would short out the amplifier channels and blow the fuses (at best) or fry the amp (at worst.) graupel wrote:
