i read the fuse size sticky and i am still a little unsure. i just bought a kicker sx1250.1 amp which comes with a 150a fuse. the kicker 0/1awg wire kit that i have has a 300a fuse. which of these should i install? distance between batt and amp about 10ft

If you had actually read the sticky, you would know that the fuse is there to protect the wire, NOT THE AMP. If your amp has (comes with) a 150A fuse, and the wiring kit has a 300A fuse, then installing the 150A fuse will still be protecting the wire, yes? Even over-protecting it, right? Right, and there is nothing wrong with using a smaller fuse than is required, you just NEVER use a larger one than the wire is rated for. Install the kit, and put the 150A fuse in. You'll be golden.

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

You should fuse for your WIRE size at the battery, and for your AMP at the amp.  300A fuse at the battery, 150A fuse at the amp.  OTOH, there is nothing wrong with using a smaller fuse than the wire's capacity, meaning you could use a smaller fuse than 300A at the battery if you choose.  Just never EXCEED the wire rating.

so should i install 2 fuses, or could i just use the smaller fuse at the battery?

If there are no fuses on the amp and you are worried about blowing it then use 2, one at the battery and one at the amp. Also get another fuse for the battery rated at or around 150.
