usually when u install a new headunit in those vehicles, you loose all those features.

thanks for the reply, but i'm thinking there has to be a way around this, and someone must have ran in to this prolblem. if not, has anyone removed the factory sub/amp and replaced it with something else that fit right in?

 thanks for your time, jeff

There is a 8 pin connector that has the amp turn on and the low level audio signal to the sub amp. Just wire into it.

now when you say 8 pin connector, you mean the one that came out of the factory radio?

i think there were three plugs that went into the factory hu.

1 was the install harness

2 was i think the factory dvd/lcd

so 3 should be the sub/amp? the smallest plug

thanks again

What wiring harness are you using? If it's the metra 1771, go to Best
Buy and tell them what you are doing. We stock the harness in our bay that enables you to use the factory amp and sub. You may get a turn-on pop, but if you find the right size resistor you can put it in line with the remote wire (blue/white) and make it disappear.

silverfox, now thats what i needed to hear. the funny thing is i went there around noon time and they were closed because of a power outage.

so i guess thats where i'm going tomorrow. thank you so much, i'll let you guys know how i make out.

also, am i pushing it to much if i want the factory lcd/dvd to work too?

silverfox,  went there today anf got the metra 70-5700. it had the plug for the sub/amp on it. i went home and hooked it up.  now there are a couple of questions i need to ask.

1. i do get the pop every time i turn on the system. where can i find a resistor (radio shack) and what does it do?

2. now it seems like the sub is overpowering all the door speakers. maybe i hooked it up worng?

on the back of the plug there were 2 blue/white 2 black 1 white 1 WHITE/ black 1 gray 1 gray/black

i hooked it like this

1 blue/white to red in the main harness

1 black to the black in the main harness

1 white to the white in the main harness

1 WHITE/ black to the WHITE/ black in the main harness

the other 4, i just taped up

also i did the ground so you can watch dvd's when driving. that worked great.

thanks for your time and help. jeff

take the blue/white wire coming out of the d1 put 2 resistors of the same size in series and ground the other end.  Then take a wire and connect it inbetween the 2 resistors and hook that up to the blue/white wire in the harness you bought.  This is a voltage divider network and will cut the source voltage in half.  A ford amp will turn on at 6v but not pop like it will at 12v.
