I have a 99' Cadillac STS with a factory Bose sub built in the middle of the rear deck. The sub is the only thing in the rear deck, so theres plenty of room to work with. What I wanted to do was place 2 15" subs in the rear deck, one on each side and keep the factory opening for the old sub as a port. I was thinking of either building the enclosure in the trunk with either MDF and Plexi glass so you can see the subs, or just Fiberglass an enclosure for it. What do u guys think? Is the port hole a good idea, or would it be better sealed? I just dont know how it would sound with the subs inside the cab instead of in the trunk. How bout if i downfire them and keep the port, would it bass hard? Any ideas are greatly appreciated

well, sounds like a good idea.  The biggest possible problem i can foresee is rattles in the rear deck.  may take some time/effort to get rid of.  I have always liked how subs sound when downfired, seems to surround and go right through your chest.   I did a similar project with my 1995 mitsubishi diamante.  we built a custom box with 4 premier dvc 12's- 2 firing back and two suspended (about 4-5") and firing off the spare tire well.  loud, but the rear deck sounded like it was going to blow apart.  So... i took a sawzall, among other tools, and cut out almost the entire rear deck lid.  i built a one piece replacement of 1/2" mdf, wrapped in layers of fiberglass and spray dynamat- in this were 4 small fiberglass boxes (2-8's, and 2-6.5's) for my highs, and 6 giant ports covered in carpet to let some air into the car.  came out really nice, no one beleived i made it myself (think i was 19-no prof. exp.).   this helped, but sent everything bouncing off the glass, making the headliner rattle.  Back to cutting- took out the back seats completely, cut a 2foot  by 3.5foot hole where the seat backs were.  wrapped up the edges and visible places with carpet- and replaced the seats with 2 toyota mr2 bucket seats.  my friend helped me weld in some bolts to anchor it to, and good.  let me tell you, it was hard to breathe back there, and air was constanly blowing on your arms.  we hung tinsel on the opening around x-mas and it would stand almost straight out.  total body massage.  I wish i could have heard that setup with some real nasty subs.
