im going to run two kicker cvr12 in series to get a 4 ohm load. will i need a 800 watt rms amp to run both 400 watt subs or will it over power them?

If the amp is rated 800w RMS @ 2ohms and you are bridging it you will be right on the money.

But remember as well...amps don't overpower subs...people do...lol
