I just installed two amps in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler TJ today. They are an Alpine MRP-F250 and a Buttkicker BKA-800-SSW. Total draw is 70 amps. I am playing it safe with a 60 amp inline fuse on the power supply.
They are hooked up to an Alpine CDA-9847 and are powering 4 Polk db 525s and one Polk Momo 8" sub.
I am installing them in a confined space (a lockable aluminum box), so I thought I would hook everything up outside the box, set my gains, and troubleshoot any issues before it gets more difficult to do so. This part went great. Everything powered up, set the gains, and thought it was time to move on.
I disconnected everything I had to to get the amps into my box. This included: power, grounds, remote turn on, RCA cables, and all speaker connections.
I hooked everything back up once they were in the box, and now when I power the head unit on all that happens is the light on top of the Alpine amp comes on for a fraction of a second then goes dark. This is repeatable. All fuses are good.
Thoughts or suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Did you move the location of the ground inside the box or is it still grounded outside and the wire runs in. If the ground is inside I would move that outside as the box itself may not be grounded I have seen a lot of those storage boxes that have rubber bushings on the bottom to stop rattles. Also sometimes amps have problems if they are mounted directly to metal that is grounded as this grounds the chassis of the amp in that case you may want to put a board between the amp and the box.

It could be the ground wire. But it also might be the speaker wires touching eachother or touching metal. I once when and unplugged my speaker wires from my speakers (which I have in boxes sitting on my back seat). Once I removed the speakers from the seat, I pulled the seat down. the speaker wires touched eachother and caused my amp to spike. When it does that, the amp shuts off until the wires are seperated.
I should have elaborated on the box setup. The amps are mounted on MDF inside the box. The ground is outside the box in the same location as the test. I'll focus on the ground and the speaker wires.
I doubt it is something with the power wire because then the inline fuse would have blown. The ground might not be solid. The remote turn on might have shorted out or be loose.
I don't think you have a good ground. It doesn't hurt to have bigger ground wires than power wires...
