had a quick question, why are the port lengths different from the man specs and what winisd spits out, for the same box size and same tunning the port lengths are almost 10 in off. what am i doing wrong

port length depends on port area, tuning, and net internal volume

Depends on what kind of response you chose on WinISD

For the two criteria you listed - box size and tuning freq - the comparison you didn't mention is port diameter.  A larger port opening area (diameter) will equate with a longer length.  Have you successfully worked up a vented enclosure using WinISD before this?  And have you gone through my thread above (Guide to WinISD) on using this program?  There is no way to tell, at this point with the limited info you provided, whether you are doing something wrong or not.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

yea i understand how to use it, it just that if i put in kickers specks the port length is different than what they give for the tuning. was wondering why

Different enclosure modeling methods often produce different results.  Every software programmer tends to give slightly different weights to different parameters.  So WinIsd is a little different from Bass Box Pro or Speaker Workshop or LEAP or on-line calculators or whatever.  Also, manufacturer's recommendations are generally aimed at what they think the "average user" will find appealing, not necessarily at what is optimal for the speaker.  Your results are not surprising.

My advice is if you know how to use WinIsd to generate a particular modelled response, use it.  If you don't care about that and you simply want good average output, use the MFG specs.
