I am installing a second amp in my wifes 91 GT for a set of subwoofers. The first install was done by one of you... a professional. Some idiot is trying to do the second.... me.
I have it all done including building my own box to custom fit in the hatch, but, I am amazed at the location the other guy ran the power line through. It is high up on the firewall on the passenger side, behind the glovebox. Unless he had the hands of a two year old, or took out the dash ( I already took out glovebox door no good there's a fan in the way) he must have used a tool. Can you'all tell me how the trick is done?

Go to your local bike shop and ask for some shifter cable housing. About 3 feet will be enough. This is a flexible ( yet stiff ) wire snake that is cheap and affective for most wire running applications.

Jeff. How do you connect the wire to the snake? I got a piece of coat hanger through but couldn't figure a way to attach, tape, weld, solder, whatever the power lead to the "snake". Thanks for the idea I'm sure it will work better if I can keep the lead attached.

If it's what I'm thinking about, the shifter cable housing is just that, a housing (hollow). It's stiffer than regular wire, allowing you to push it through openings and bends. Once you have it in place through the firewall, simply run the power cable through it (as you have now created a hollow tunnel to pass the wire through). Once the power wire is through, simply pull the shifter cable housing out (just pull it over the wire) and presto.
Imagine an ink pen for a better visual. The ink park (power wire) is inside the hard outer case that you hold with your hand (the Shifter Cable housing). If you try and push just the ink part through something hard, it will bend/break. But, if you push the hard outer casing through first, then slide the ink part through it.... Hope that clears it up

Donate to the12volt.comThe power lead is 4 guage I think which is easily a thick as the shifter cable housing. It will not go through, but might attach in some way. Does anybody know of a tool that will do this?
