Hey whats up guys...I like to build boxes as a hobby. This is my 8th box I think. It is an ABC/Dual-chamber bass reflex for one 12 incher. Main chamber is tuned to about 30Hz while second chamber is tuned to about 42Hz.

The subwoofer is an MTX MZS1204 powered by a Power Acoustik PS2-520 feeding it 300 watts.

Hows it sound you may ask?? Well for comparison the sub was in a 1 cu ft sealed box while for a couple weeks while I found time last weekend to finish building the box. The sealed box sounded tight and clean...BUT seriously lacked in output. The lows were weak and the higher bass notes were alright.

This is my first ABC box I've designed and built. It seriously SURPRISED me. The bass is still tight and even smoother now. The output is crazy for one 12 and 300 watts. This box slams the lows. With the car all sealed up and trunk closed my garage door and outside overhangs were rattling.

I got a couple vids and some pictures for you guys...Tell me what you think...good or bad I don't care, just some feedback

Looks like a well built box, but did you forget the carpet?

Next time he comes down I'm either gonna paint it or carpet it

I don't know, dawg...(Randy Jackson)...that slightly offcenter woofer cutout looks kinda odd.  I think I know WHY it might be that way, but the internal construction doesn't translate beautifully to the outer finished look.  Top spacing looks a little off from bottom spacing, as well.

(...again, Randy)...It doesn't do anything for me tonight.

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

well steve...if you are thinking that the woofer is not centered because of the inner divider than you are correct.

Looks kinda weird cuz its not centered but it sounds good.

Steve, what do you mean the top spacing looks off from the bottom spacing.

And I do not think of myself as a professional or anything...just a hobby

Sorry, that top/bottom sub spacing probably appears like that because the car is partially blocking the bottom part of it.  I didn't notice that.  And sorry to be critical, but I just watched American Idol so I'm in the mood.  ;)

All people see is the outside appearance.  This subwoofer could convey a better sense of balance and harmony with a different look on the face.  I would experiment with slotted ports or something to try to achieve a prettier face on this box.  This, for a quick example, has the same offcenter woofer but the design of the ports takes the eye away from the asymetrical spacing.  It encourages the focus on other things:

Already Been Constructed

Already Been Carpeted

Already Been Cleaned

Already Been Caulked

Already Been Cloned

Or

Aperiodic Bi-Chamber, it's supposed to be the best of both worlds with great output in the lower frequency ranges and still be smooth in the upper regions.

Hmm...good idea. I'll try that for my next build for my old school JL 12W6
