Subject: mounting subs inside out

hey guys/gals,

i used to have a jeep chearokee, with 2 audiobahn 12's. i had one mounted normally in the box and one /w the magnet facing out. sealed encloser, with seperate chambers. i did it for cosmetic reasons, but truthfully i didnt notice a difference in sound wether the magnet was facing in or out. why is this??

also
i just bought a '07 elantra (nice new look to '07) getting 2 more audiobahn's :) now with my subs in the trunk will it matter for spl which way i mount my subs?? (remember i had those other audiobahns in a jeep(no trunk) )

thanks

It didn't matter, because it doesn't matter. As long as you allow for proper phasing between woofers, magnet in vs magnet out won't matter at all. You will also need to make the "magnet out" enclosure or chamber smaller, to allow for the difference in driver displacement.

In answer to the second part... again, it won't matter.

I think you'll probably hear a difference, even with the same setup you had before.  They are two different cars.  One has a trunk.

An '07 Elantra is a sweet car.  Doesn't she deserve something a little better than that?

Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

Tell me you're not getting 2 more Audiobahn's. You can get much better subs for about the same price.

Of course the hardest part about mounting subs inside out is pushing on the magnets hard enough to turn them inside out in the first place.  Most subs you have to stand on, some you have to use a Ford F250; Audiobahhumbug subs can be turned inside out by a little girl.  posted_image

thanks for your advise.. put for about $120 per sub $50 for box and $150 for amp so $440 to hit 145db all day long is worth is to me.. :)

I highly doubt you hit 145db's...maybe on the walmart BOOMSTICK.

But on an AC 180 or 190 or the TL...you won't get anywhere near 145dbs

all i can say is try it for your self... jeep, 2 audiobahn aw1200's(no longer made) so us Audiobahn AW1200N's, 1600 watt crunch v series amp(no longer made) us something close, dual sealed 12in box with 1.45 cuft per sub, panasonic head unit with 4v preamp outs.......

I plead the fifth here.

But audiobahn, please do yourself a fovor and look at something like the JL W0's or Kicker CVR's or Infinity's    all those can be had to very close to the same price, and will sound much much better.

And if you take the time and actually build your own enclosure, for say $25-$30, if you have to tools or can get a friend to help. You can obtain a better sound, and if designed right would even get louder!

In my opinion you should try something like RE subs (by US Amps) in the se series 12". In the price range of about $139.99 each you can walk all over CVR's, Audiobahn, or actually anything else in that price range for excursion and HEAVY, HEAVY winding. The MT line is sooooo baddddasss that there aren't any specs available for it. They're a little pricey. Try the SE line for what you are trying to do.

Hope this is helpful,

David

For the last time, please step away from the shiny chrome crills and flames.

Friends dont let friends buy audiobahn.

If you swaer by it that is your choice, but 99% of this fourm is going to be anti audiobahn, Lanzar, Pyle, and other such low grade brands

And you DIDN'T hit 145dB with two Audiobahn woofers... Ain't gonna happen!

Yeah I used to have a similar setup in a '97 blazer with the biggest ported box audiobahn recommended for them. I think I had two 1206t's or something like that. I don't remember the number exactly as I am trying to forget about those. I just recently bought two Kicker L7 10's and the audiobahns don't compare.... at all. And these are 10's against 12's. They are in a different type of vehicle, but the difference between them is still rediculous.

I'd bet my entire Eclipse system, (including a DA-7232, a 34230, and a 32440), WITH the two AltoMobile UCSPros, all the wiring, (Streetwires and Monster) the two TCSounds TC-1000's, the Adire 6.8's in the doors, both door pods, the JL tweeters I just bought, and the (LITERALLY) un-buyable 4 inch Vifa midrage drivers... I'm THAT sure he never hit 145dB. I have 750 watts in the trunk, FOR MY DOORS, and I've never hit that kind of SPL.
