Hi Guys, I've got a 2004 Nissan Titan with a rockford amp running 2 12" subs and I have the kenwood xxv-05v head unit.. all the speakers are connected to the head unit and I have the altinator whine when the truck is running and it's loud. I can not get rid of it, I've regrounded my amp, I've run new Grounds, I've used ground loop isolators I've grounded the head unit to the battery, i've grounded the brain to the chassis twice, and the ground I used was paint gone, bare metal, bolt through the floor with star washer on top and bottem. I've even grounded the RCA's and I have no idea what to do next, I'm thinking it's the head unit. where can I take it to get inspected ,and if it is what do I need to tell the repair facility to get the right thing fixed. Any thing that helps is more than appreciated, If i've missed something let me know and i'll try it too. thanks in advance, Chris Mulkey ------------- 2004 Nissan Titan

Ask a buddy of your to borrow their HU and see if the problem persists with their HU. If it does, then it's a prblem with the amplfiier or the system's wiring. If it goes away, you know then it's the Kenwood deck and get warranty on it if you have.

Is the buzz comming from the sub or door speakers?

No sound from the subs only the door speakers, if there is a sound from the subs I can't hear it.

Well, it cant be the headunit ground because then all 4 speakers would have this problem. It is not the amp at all since you hear no whine at all. I am thinking that the outputs from the headunit for those front speakers are picking it up. It could be that those wires are running close to a power wire of some sort thus causing the problem, but I doubt it. I would first start with a new headunit. Borrow one from a friend or whatever and try that first. If it still does it, then you know it is not the headunit itself. Next check all the wires running from the headunit to see if any are sliced, pinched or close to any big power wires. Also, try regrounding to a different place far away from where it is now. Do a quick ground, not a permanant ground using some left over wire.

Is there a factory amp in the car? Does the noise stop when the key in acc (motor not running?) Set the hand break to turn off the day time runnig lights, noise go away? Is illumination hooked up? Try running a power from battery (temparary) to red and yellow of deck (isolated from dash wire) and try.

There used to be a factory amp in the truck, It had the rockford fosgate factory amp in it. I have bypassed the amp and tied into the speaker wires directly. I only have the whinning when the truck is running. In Acc the sound is gone. No running lights, Illumination is not hooked Up, I have a wire run directly from the battery for the constant 12 volts and I tied into the Acc at the key to see if that worked, I have nothing tied into the factory stereo wires. I'm going to try a diff. head unit tomm. 3.24.07 we'll see if it work. Thanks Ispker for hanging in there with me. Do you think if i run the Acc wire through a relay that might be the trick? Ok, I hooked up another head unit and guess what, Noise is gone. So, Now It's going out first thing in the morning to the repair shop. I just hope they will find something wrong and be able to fix it, and not just say I had it wired wrong or say I need a new head unit. We'll see if it's fixed when i get it back. Chris, I don't want to burst your bubble, but you might have the warrantied / new deck do the same thing  The reason I say this is because some manufacturer's have inherent ground problem on their boards and this can not be fixed because it's on all their boards that they use for that particular model. Some models have less likely a chance to have grounding issues, while others you can't do anything about unless you only hook up the deck to power speakers ( no amplifier ). This is coming from experience with Pioneers having this same problem on their boards, but only happens when amplified power is used. ------------- Jeff

yea but pioneer has always had ground problems one way they tried to fix was to fuse the ground,lol that worked really well, junk. the 06 and new pioneer headunits have said to be ok. i have never had a problem with a kenwood headunit and i have ran them for 15+yrs...
