I've got two new 10W3v3s, and was wondering if anyone has tried down firing ported boxes. Would that muddy up the bass too much? Or maybe shorten the life span of the subs?

They will be tighter in a sealed enclusure. But if you want to be ported I would fire em' up. I may be wrong but I "think" it is easier to reach the mechanical limits of the sub if it is ported and set at the same power as you would set it sealed. Please, somebody correct me if I am mistakened.

the mechanical limits will depend on the enclosure design and tuning frequency. you would have to model the sub in a box building program to see what will happen.

I think I'll just try down firing, sealed, to see how loud it is. I really like the output from down firing my 8s in a wedged box like this-->https://www.decware.com/newsite/invertedwedge.htm

No, lol! I just built it for my RF 8s using manufactures specs for sealed, .3 cubic ft. for each sub. Just kinda guessed at the angle of the wedge. Dunno if its the subs being at an angle, but the 8s just slam with that box. But of course I want more, so I'll try that design with the JL 10s.
