Looking for some info for a stereo install in our 1992 Nissan Pathfinder. It still has the factory set-up (with cassette player). Looking to install a Sony or Pioneer CD/MP3 player. Not anything huge, just around 50W/speaker (200W total).

It appears from the wiring diagrams of the Pathty, that I have amplifiers in the factory system. I have had it suggested to me that I may need to bypass these. I think they are installed in the rear of the vehicle, in the side panels of the cargo area, but I have never looked for them. The "vehicle information" on this forum gives speaker wire colour information, but does not address amplifier wires.

I have no idea what wattage these amps would be or anything about the factory speaker wattage either. I am not a loud music guy, by any means, but at the same time, I do not want to damage anything.

So, do I need to diable these amps?

Thanks for the info TuneMan. Based on this, it looks like I should be able to wire the fornt speakers direct. But for the rear, I'd have to tie-in behind the amp in order to avoid too much power going to the rear speakers. Or I could run entirely new wires...
