hi thanks for reading.

i plan on building my 1988 honda crx for competing in db drags. from reading on here i think ill go with 2 12" kicker L7's. i also want to use 2 hifonics brutus amps, probably the 1200 watt rms ones. i have competed before in 2000 and 2001 where my best was a 151db with two audiobahn 1505's subs and one audiobahn 2300hc amp. this was on the old termlab(anyone know what that number would be now). anyway heres the questions. what size of box should i biuld i think my crx peak frequency is about 45hz (if anyone can second this). should i build them in a common chamber? ported lower or higher?   sholud i upgrade the electrical which is now all stock. if i put more than one battery does that put me out of the street categories. i used two use 3 batteries back then, but that was when they only had street, super street and extreme categories(i was in super street 1-2 no wall). thanks for your time. nino.

Alright.

The old meter was anywhere from +3 to +5db versus the new Term-Lab USB setup.

A CRX will peak above 60hz, this is about what you should be playing for drag, I know thats where my car peaks and a few others peak when making a legal or db drag style run

For that car, common chamber for 2 12 inch L7s should be roughly 2.5cu ft or smaller with 2 4 inch aero ports roughly 12-154 inches in length.

DB drag you cant have the car running in the lanes, so the "beefed" electrial system will do nothing for you.

The class break down is on a easy to follow matrix on the dr drag site here https://www.dbdrag.com/dbdrag/rules/index.asp?Page=2

You will probably be aiming for a street class I am guessing>?

Current scores are as follows average and leaders

Street A 154/158
Street B 155/158
Street C 157/159

Those are average on who will win at BIG shows, and what went down at finals last year int he US and overseas.

If you have any other questions feel free to ask, or PM me.   I mainly run USACi but since I am moving further north I will be running quite a few Db Drag shows in the IA, NE area. If you have questions about drag I try to keep up to par, beacuse I am a USACi judge and every so often we do have double events with DB drag as well

thanks jeff. ive got some more questions.

does it matter which way i face everything. i was thinking speakers up and ports to the rear. what do think. also would i be in danger of damaging my subs runnning them at around 1200 rms for comp time. do you have any other amp recommendations. should i play tones only or sweeps. im hoping to hit around 148 on a termlab does that sound within reach. where can i get some aero ports. thanks for all help.

Aero ports are availible from parts express.

Face subs up and ports back, more then likely with 2 subs you will do the best with the box pushed all the way to the drivers side

I use the L7 10's for burps I put 3300 per sub to them, they will take it all day long, I have been using the same 10's from august of last year all the way through finals and they have been to a few shows this year already.

With 1200 per sub, 2 12 L7's (you may want to consider the 2006 L5's if thats the power you have) you can easily do over 150 in drag.

With 2 10's L7's and 2 amps (6600 watts total) I was able to do 154.1 outlaw (USACi style) and 151.8 Legal

thanks. i started placing orders already.

jeff if you say that "with the power you have I recommend the l5's" should i go with more power such as the hifonics brutus 1600rms. does anyone have any other recommendations over the hifonics. what do you think about sound deadening. would it help any in my situation. how abouy any battery advice.

Digital Designs DDZ1 is one mother of an amp, same with the big MTX amps, something strappable might be a good idea as well. Give those suckers some power.

Batteries, I go with The V/ Audioforce/ kinetik    The audioforce is the same as the kinetik but cheaper.

DO NOT PUT DEADNING IN A CRX!!!!     9.9 out of 10 times it will hurt your score and it will never recover!

For burps the 2006/2007 L7s are good for over 2500WRMS.    Im over 3000 WRMS on mine and they love it.

for 1000-2000 WRMS I would go with the 2006/2007 L5's   they are escentially the exact same as the 2004/2005 L7's

Where are you going to be running shows at?   I travel all over the midwest, and make it out of my region to judge shows often, If I could lend a hand in person I would gladly do so, just let me know.

I am trying to get my motor work done on My rex, so I can get the setup from finals back in for 2 shows this weekend, its gonna be close!!!!

The DDZ1's are the best bang for he buck, espically when your running DB drag and there are no power clases.

I would go that route!

ok heres what i got so far. 2 l7's dual 2 ohm and 2 hifonics 2000rms each.

heres the new problem i ordered the ports and got only the inner and outer flares the tubes are on backorder. they wont be in my hands until after one of the shows im planning on attending.

would you recommend using a slot port. if so what would the dimensions be. jeff you said that a common chamber with 2.5 cubic ft is what you recommend. how did you come up with that figure is there a mathematical approach or have you already gone through all the trial and error. im having trouble coming up with box dimensions that included 12 inch long ports without using elbows. can you help me on this one. 2.5 seems real small does it make a db difference if its a bigger box tuned at the same frequency.(dont worry i plan on building what you tell me to. from everthing ive read on these forums your the go to guy for spl, i just like to learn as much as i can)

another question i have is- if  i run one amp at 2 ohm while im running sweeps and tones will this still give me my peak frequency as compared to running two amps at 1 ohm and the running tones in that freq range. or would it show different peaks. any other advice is welcome.

i also have a new in box epicenter. would this help, hurt, or wouldnt make a difference during comp.

thanks for the advice on the amps.

If your port tubes are on back order, try a lowes or homedepot in your area ask for 4" thin wall pvc   they do have it from time to time.

2.5 cu ft can be done   I will help ya out.

2 subs side by side will fit in 25.25, you know the width of 1 sub.    the last measurement will be your depth.

I have been through alot of trial and error, I am just getting you started in the ball park figures I was started with.

The best thing to do is get out to shows and meet people and make lots of friends. You have a great start with the vehicle...There is about nothing that will beat the CRX in the US in the SPL lanes.

If you havent you should start looking into the DB drag fourms, or the USACi fourms...there is always alot of help that you can pick up there as well
