I just hooked up my new HU in my 05 Altima previously with the stock Bose system. Now when I turn it on there's a constant "static" coming from the speakers, even when the volume is set to 0, almost like if you turned the volume on your TV all the way up and then used turned the cable box volume all the way down, and as the volume gets higher the static gets louder. Most of the time the music covers it, but on songs where the background music is real loud you can hear it. I was thinkin maybe since it has the factory AMP maybe I just need to turn the settings on the AMP down? But I checked out the AMP in the trunk and didn't see any controls, anyone else have this AMP? Do I need to remove it from the chassis mountings to get to the controls?
Sounds like you have the speaker level outputs from your new HU driving the factory amps. This won't work. You either need to bypass the factory amp or get the proper adapters - if they exist - to allow your HU to drive the factory amp from the RCA outputs. Best bet is to remove and/or bypass the factory amp. There may be an amplifier bypass harness available for your vehicle... you may have to run all new speaker wires depending on how the vehicle is set up.

I've never used one of those particular adapters but from the description is sounds like it'll work. It's basically an LOC adapted for use with your sort of system. Don't expect superb sound quality...

Support the12volt.comWould it be better to just re-wire and bypass the factory AMP all together? My HU has a max volume of 60 and I haven't been able to go over 12... I figure if I can get the static to go away and have it still sound as good at a volume level of 30 as it does now at 12, I should be good to go. Will bypassing the factory AMP mess with the sound quality much?
