The sunbird has the 'split' deck where the stock cassete player is located near the floor infront of the gear shift while the volume controls ect are on the dashboard. Will I be required to take the dash apart to get at those wires "speaker wires ect" or is there another route i can access them at

The factory radio in that car is made of three units. The amp and tuner section is behind the radio controls/display. You need to remove the dash trim around the remote cassette and around the radio display and heater controls. The guts of the radio is a silver box mounted inside the dash. It is held in place by one 10mm nut and a couple of studs. Remove the tuner box and you will get to the standard GM radio plugs. Purchase a wiring/connector kit to plug into the factgory harness. It will make the wires long enough and makes the wiring easy and clean. You will also need an antenna lead adaptor to change radios. You can actually buy a mounting plate to mount your new radio into the console in the slot above the cassette deck was.
