Alright some may disapprove of my setup up, but here it us just so you know what I'm working with.

Polk Momo 6.5" components speakers in the front
Polk DB 4" speakers in the rear
Scion Headunit

The Scion unit sounds okay to me, but I just need it to be louder for when I have the windows down on the highway. I want a powerful enough amp to run my Momo's, I'll most likely need to turn down the gain on the rear speakers. I'll be using LOC's to have RCA's running to the amp. I just need help deciding on which of the two amps to go with:

Alpine MRV-F545 (specs from Alpine's online owner's manual PDF)

Power Output: RMS Continuous Power (at 14.4V, 20 Hz to 20
kHz)
Per channel into 4 ohms (0.3% THD) ...MRV-F545: 125Wx4
Per channel into 2 ohms (1% THD) ......MRV-F545: 250Wx4
Bridged into 4 ohms (0.3% THD) ........ MRV-F545: 125Wx2
+500Wx1

Frequency Response ................... 10 Hz to 50 kHz (+0, –1 dB)
Signal-to-Noise Ratio
(referenced to rated power) .......................................... 93 dBA
(CEA-2006) .................................................................. 73 dBA
Input Sensitivity (for rated power
output) ............................................................. 200mV to 4.0V
Input Impedance ....................................... Line in: 10k ohms<
Speaker Impedance ............................... 4 or 2 ohms (Stereo),
4 ohms (Bridged)
Active Dividing Network Frequency and
Slope ....................................... 30 to 400 Hz, 12 dB per octave
Power Requirement .................. 11 – 16V DC Negative Ground
Dimensions (W x H x D)
MRV-F545 ................................ 420mm x 228mm x 60mm

Eclipse XA4000 (specs from eclipses website)

Channel - 4/3/2
Power Output (max.) 10% THD 2ohm - 840W
Power Output 1%THD
2ohm - 175Wx4
4ohm - 125Wx4
4ohm bridged - 350Wx2

THD @ Rated Power
4ohm - 0.005%

Frequency Response, 1W out - 20 - 20,000Hz (stereo)
Amp Crossover
Hi-Pass 18dB/oct - 30 - 500Hz
Lo-Pass18dB/oct - 50 - 500Hz
Subsonic18dB/oct - 18Hz

Pre-Amp Output Lo-Pass 18dB/oct - No Filter
Dimensions (WxHxD) - 15 3/4" x 2 5/16" x 10 3/16"

I may upgrade to an after market radio later, so I'd like to get the better of the two amp.

Any input would be helpful.

*Oh yeah, the car is a 91 Toyota MR2.

My personal vote would be the Eclipse. Those new amps are astoundingly good sounding pieces of gear. Always had Eclipse, and I've never been disappointed. The Alpine'll give you more power, obviously, but certainly not enough to notice the difference.

The IcePowered amplifiers are very clean, quiet outputs, and as I said VERY good sounding pieces.

I'd imagine everyone here will tell you to go with the Eclipse.

The Eclipse will provide cleaner power and I like the steeper xover slope on the onboard-xover, as well as the presence of a subsonic filter.  These two factors I think should significantly slant the discerning shopper in favor of the Eclipse.  Steeper slopes seem to work out better, and a sub-sonic filter is always helpful, but you don't indicate a subwoofer so these things may not be issues for you.  If you have any interest in a subwoofer, this is certainly the better amplifier for you.

The Eclipse, also, IMO, is a better *looking* amplifier.

You give Alpine too much credit.  Both amplfiers are rated at 14.4v but the Eclipse has a lower THD at the same power level.  The Eclipse wins here too.

Much, much better amplifier.

Awesome, thanks for the replies!!! I was leaning towards the Alpine, but you guys are definitely starting to change my mind.

I do have two Subwoofers, behind the seats... each powered by it's own amp (only reason for running two amps, was for the ability to conceal them in my rear storage boxes)

The woofers:
Polk MOMO (MM2084) 8" woofer

The woofer amps:
MTX Audio 251D.

Given that you are running 8's, I'm not as concerned with the weaker xover on the Alpine... still the Eclipse is simply a better amplfier.  Obviously, either amplfier will work very well for you in your situation, but the Eclipse is simply better equipment.

If I were shopping for amps, Eclipse would be on my short list for consideration.. Alpine wouldn't even be in the running.
