I just read aboutbeaking in subs on another topic, but i have a question, if i turn my alpine 12" type r's up, with an amp that is powering them at half what they need rms wise, is that gonna hurt them any? I am getting an mrd 1005 next month, will they be broken in by then with my rockford 450s amp? I am pushing abotu 225 rms to each right now.

AFAIAC, woofer "break-in" is a myth. 100% of "break-in" is time for the user to get used to the way the system sounds, so they can hear when it is being stressed, or to make certain that no other components are bad or defective, or mis-matched in some other way.

Yes, that's fine. They say to do it free-air hanging in the middle of a room (...big airspace, really) from coathanger. You're supposed to do it at like 50Hz so the cone is moving about 1/3 of it's potential for about 10 min.
It is debatable, though. I personally believe that any material gets more flexable [meaning, it'll move more (efficiently)] with use (to a certain point, of course). I believe the sensativity goes up after 'break-in'.
I'm not sure that I gave you the correct freq. or time frame but it'll do.

If you are going to break in a driver in free air, use ONLY the Fs frequency (or very close to it). See Breaking in subs, and also found at www.BCAE1.com (from which my post was subconsciously derived). Full excursion is the goal.
