i have a set of focal components from a few years back that never came with cross overs, just a high pass filter for the tweaters.  But i never seemed to get goo results out of the speakers..   i was thinking a cross over may help.. how should i go about getting a cross over?

Tell us all about your system. Amplifiers and headunits, and especially signal processors you have available.

My inclination here would be to see how cheap you could swing an active xover setup.

Otherwise, barring that, we can look at custom passives.

all my gear is a few years old.  its a Panasonic HU with an alpine M series amp 100x2.

I am not building anything crazy, a passive cross over is what I was thinking, but maybe it would be worth looking into active.. what am I looking for to start out?

so that that will make it so I cross over my whole system together correct?  like basically cut frequencies before there amplified?

Hmm.. yea a 2-channel amp won't do it.. you'd need a 4-channel .. one for each speaker.

Anyway.. I mean unless you want to figure out the DCR of the speakers and then built custom xovers, this is kinda a crapshoot.

Maybe you could try something like this.. I've got a pair of these xovers and have used all kinds of speakers them.. and usually get good results.
