just purchased a jvc kd-nx5000. looking to install it this weekend. can someone tell me where the vehicle speed sensor wire is? thanks!

edit: oh, it's a 1999 civic SiR coupe (Si in the US).

It should be a blue wire under the hood on the drivers side in a 2-pin plug on or near the firewall (obviously you should test the wire to be sure).  If can't find it, you may not want to worry about hooking it up as the only benefit it gives you is that it makes the navigation somewhat more accurate (due to losing signal when going under bridges thru tunnels etc.).  Also, depending on how that headunit is set up, hooking up the vss wire could inhibit DVD playback while driving since the unit will know the car is in motion (it's illegal to play DVD's while driving).

well, for those interested, i just tapped into the vss wire behind the gauges. it's the middle harness i believe, blue/white wire.

the NX5000 uses this to determine your speed, so it gives you arrival times based on how fast you're going. it doesn't, however, restrict using the GPS search function (finding POIs, entering addresses, etc), while you are driving. oddly enough, that's controlled primarily by the parking brake wire, which also controls whether video is displayed or not. i just connected that to a switch, instead of the actual parking brake.

driving with parking brake wire grounded -> video on, gps searching allowed
driving with parking brake wire not grounded -> no video, no GPS search
stopped (at a red light for example) with parking brake wire not grounded -> no video, GPS searching allowed

so far, quite happy with the deck. 40 GB of hard drive space is a nice feature. the way music is filed isn't the greatest, but i can live with it. there is also an angle limitation for installation of the deck. greater than 30 degrees above the horizontal is not recommended. supposedly messes up GPS operation.
