wierd skipping problem

Hi have 79 trans am and i had 2 10's installed and now when i play music with the car off it is fine but when i play music with the car on the sound coming from my 6x9's skips? I am stumped with where to even look first.
Any idea's.

Fill us in: did this start to occur AS SOON as the subs were installed? OEM 6 X 9 rear deck speakers? If so, you may need to look at putting a protective baffle behind those speakers so they are not interfered with by the sound pressure of the subs. But, as always, a better description of your system and timeline of problems is crucial for best troubleshooting help. ------------- Build the box so that it performs well in the worst case scenario and, in return, it will reward you at all times.

About 3 months ago i had an after market deck put in, Pioneer and a pair of kenwood 6x9's with no problems what so ever and just a few days ago i had the subs and amp installed and we tested it with the car off and it was great then no more than 10 seconds with the car running there would be skipping in the 6x9's. the subs are memphis and the amp is memphis also running only a few 100 watts total

"Skipping?" No, speakers do not "skip." Perhpas you should go get it looked at by a shop in your area. ------------- Support the12volt.com

i know speakers dont skip i was wondering if it can be caused by some kind of disruption or distortion?

If WHAT can be caused by distortion? I have no idea what your problem might be. "Skipping" means nothing to me unless it is your head unit during CD playback. ------------- Support the12volt.com

Do you have front speakers or just the rears? Does the noise go away if you remove the subs from the back? Are the rear speakers mounted down or just sitting in the holes? This is a tough one to help with without seeing it first hand.

Ok i got more info there is something causing distortion from the front of the car through the Sub cables, the shop tech installed a shield and better insulated wiring and it is still there he is stumped now. the only thing we havent tried is better sub cables, and after that we are going to start unhooking dash items until we find it.

OK now we found out the distortion is from the dizzy, the recommendation is a shield wielded in the engine bay to block it what would be the best thing for the shield?

the car has 350 in it and on that motor the distributor(dizzy) is at the back of the engine bay and our tech has concluded after 3 hours of testing that that is causing the distortion/disruption and we need to block it out with a shield.
