As a bit of a challenge I know a few people that have decided to compete for the loudest pair of 6x9's.  Just curious to hear peoples opinions on how to get the most from a pair of 6x9's.  They will be in stock position on the rear shelf of the car.  Would you need an amp with a good damping factor to keep better control of the speakers.  Im guessing there would be quite a lot to look into as 6x9's are not built for the excursion and abuse subs are.  Any tips or suggestions to try?

SPL or overall loudness....they are two different things.

a setup that is loud to the ear can meter lower then a setup that meters high but doesn't sound as loud to the ear

1: Full range or tone? Full range will be a MUCH taller order, but a tone? MUCH simpler solution, really.

2: Excursion has NOTHING to do with sheer output. When's the last time you saw a 6X9 with a LOWER efficiency number than say, an Eclipse Ti 12"?

It all reminds me of something that Molière once said to Guy de Maupassant at a café in Vienna: "That's nice. You should write it down."

Going for SPL with tone, same as a normal SPL competition, only using the 6x9's

Um, OK.  I predict 118db @ 75Hz.  Be sure to report how many voice coils you fry.

I realize not many people will take it seriously and its just a bit of fun between friends.  After doing a bit of searching I found a forum where they claimed 138.1 with 6x9's on a DLS A6 Monoblock at an Iasca event.  I tried to find out what frequency it was at but no reply so far.  I find it hard to believe that they are doing these numbers with 6x9's so Im going to look into it some more and try get proof.

Earthquake made some 6x9 subs a long long time ago in early 90's.
